Mitch Leedham is being investigated by the Canadian Armed Forces over his role in supplying knockoff NVGs to Mriya Aid, an Ottawa-based not-for-profit he Co-Founded with Captain Joseph Friedberg and L Col Melanie Lake in 2022. Mriya Aid purchased 30 Night Vision Goggles (NVGs) from AusCan Tactical, Leedham's military supply company, for a total of $99,950.
When concerns were raised by Ukrainians about the gear they received, Mriya Aid, Leedham, and their supporters criticised and attacked them online. The investigation is aimed at determining the role of military personnel in the group and their wrongdoing.
Allegations against Mitch Leedham
- Self-dealing: as a Mriya Aid Co-Founder, he sold $99,950 of fake Chinese NVGs to Mriya Aid
- Failed to deliver $50,000 of other orders to another NGO
- Attempted to sell the fake Chinese NVGs to the Ukrainian NGO rather than donate them as promised
- Sent Ukrainian units into battle with fake NVGs without warning them that other units had already had issues
